How to Add an Update Button to AWStats

By default, AWStats updates only once per day. To get real-time statistics or see instant updates, you can add an update button to AWStats. This guide walks you through enabling manual updates to make your stats refresh immediately.

Enabling the Manual Update Button in AWStats

If you’d like to manually update your website stats at any time, follow these steps to add an "Update" button to AWStats:

  1. Locate the AWStats Folder:

    Navigate to the AWStats directory in your account, usually located at:

    /home#/username/tmp/awstats/
  2. Edit the Custom Configuration File:

    Find and open the custom.txt file within the AWStats folder.

  3. Add Update Button Settings:

    Insert the following lines in the custom.txt file to enable manual updates:

    AllowToUpdateStatsFromBrowser=1
    DNSLookup=1

    These settings enable the "Update" option and ensure DNS lookups for IP addresses.

  4. Save Changes:

    After adding these lines, save the custom.txt file.

Using the Update Button in AWStats

Now, when you open AWStats in your cPanel, you’ll see an "Update now" link next to the date. Click this link to instantly parse raw access logs and generate up-to-date statistics for your website.

Summary

Adding an update button to AWStats allows you to view the latest statistics at any time. With these steps, you can easily enable manual updates and get real-time insights into your website’s performance.
