How to Edit Website Files Using the File Manager

Editing your website's files can be straightforward with the right tools. This guide will walk you through using the File Manager to easily update and manage your site's content. The File Manager allows you to make changes to many files on your account. However, please note that if you are using a dynamic website (e.g., Blog, CMS, Shopping Cart, etc.), these instructions might not apply.

Finding the File Name

There are facilities in place to edit the code which forms your pages. You can get into the source code for a given page, pretty easily by doing the following: First as you're browsing the 'page' note the filename of it, you'll need the filename in a minute.

For the URL:

http://www.example.com/page-name.html

The filename would be: page-name.html

Accessing the File Manager

1. Log in to your Bluehost control panel.
2. Once logged in, find and click the Hosting from the side navigation menu to the left.
   
3. Lastly, after clicking the Hosting tab under Quick Links, click on File Manager to access the File Manager of your Bluehost account.
   

Modifying files with the File Manager

1. On File Manager, locate the file name you want to edit, then click and highlight the file.

   Note: If hidden files do not appear in the File Manager, open the Settings option in the top right corner. Next, choose to show hidden files and Save.

   
   
2. Click the Edit icon from the Toolbar, and a popup window will appear.
   

• Alternatively, highlight the file or folder and right-click your mouse to show a drop-down menu. Click Edit, and then the same popup window will appear.
  
• Click the Edit button on the popup window to open the code editor.
  
• Once you finish editing your file, click Save Changes before closing the editor.
