How Much Traffic Can I Have?

How much traffic can your website handle? Depending on how resources get distributed, your server will typically support 12,000-16,000 visitors per day and around 12,000-16,000 hits per hour. A hit is usually a request made to a website’s server to download a particular file. A visit is when a user clicks on a web page, regardless of the number of files downloaded.
This article will provide general ranges for each hosting plan we offer.

Note: The ranges provided below are approximations, and should not be relied upon as exact figures. These may not represent sites with higher resource usage per user, accounts with multiple websites, or accounts with traffic condensed in smaller windows of time.

Shared Hosting

All shared hosting services provide the same level of performance, thus have very similar numbers. Pro (not displayed) does have fewer customers and the same performance limits per customer, typically allowing for higher amounts of traffic.

WordPress Pro

While technically WP Pro uses the same performance limits as shared, there are additional optimizations that are specific to and confirmed to work on WordPress installs.  As a result, we see slightly higher performance on WP Pro.

Virtual Private Server (VPS)

Virtual Private Servers allocate resources similarly to our shared plans but do not include the optimizations. With the exception of Ultimate, VPS is meant for customers who want Root access (not for customers who want a performance bump).

Dedicated Server

Dedicated Servers provide significant improvements to performance, with higher tiers primarily being limited by application type and optimizations around those applications. A Dedicated Server gives you complete customizability. Higher tiers may require additional customization, which is not reflected in this testing.

FAQ

How can I manage huge and unexpected spikes in traffic?

If you experience that your traffic spikes too high or for too long, it's possible to exceed your resource limits, which can lead to account suspension. For fewer restrictions, we recommend upgrading your hosting plan to suit your needs. Of our plans, Dedicated Servers will offer you the most flexibility.

What should I do if I need to handle more traffic?

We generally recommend optimizing your site to run more efficiently, rather than upgrading your server. If your account is not suitable to handle the level of traffic you receive (per the specifications above), and there is no further optimization possible, you may upgrade to a server with more resources.
