Restarting Mail Services on VPS & Dedicated Hosting

Have email troubles? It might be time to restart your mail services. Don't worry, it's easier than you think! This guide will walk you through restarting your mail services on a VPS or dedicated server so you'll be able to send and receive emails quickly again. To begin, you will need to log in to WHM. If you have not done this before, please see Log in to WHM.

Performing the restart

  1. Log in to the WHM by going to yourdomain.ext/whm in a browser. Replace yourdomain.ext with your domain.
  2. Once you get to the login page, enter your username and password.
    • Username will be root.
    • Password will be the root password for your server.

  3. If this is your first time logging into the WHM, you may see a page titled Feature Showcase. Click on Exit to WHM at the bottom of the page.

  4. Look for the Restart Services section. The quickest way is to type the keyword in the Search box on the left-side panel.
  5. Click Mail Server (Exim) from the list.

  6. Click the Yes button to restart.

  7. Wait for the restart to finish.

  8. Follow the same procedure to restart the IMAP Server service.
