How to Upload a Website in Publisher 2007

Microsoft no longer supports Publisher 2007, which lacks modern features such as responsive design and secure coding standards. However, this guide is for users who still need to upload a website in Publisher 2007 using FTP.

Important: Microsoft Publisher will be discontinued in October 2026 and will no longer be part of Microsoft 365 or receive support. After this date, subscribers won't be able to open or edit Publisher files. Support will continue, and users can expect the same experience.

Why Use Publisher 2007?

If you're new to website creation, Publisher 2007 provides a simple and accessible introduction to basic web publishing. It integrates with Microsoft Office, making it useful for beginners managing small projects or personal websites.

However, this method is considered outdated. We highly recommend transitioning to modern tools like WordPress.

Upload Website in Publisher 2007

Step 1: Create an FTP Location in Publisher 2007

To publish your website online, you must connect Publisher to your hosting server via FTP (File Transfer Protocol). Here's how to do it:

  1. Open Microsoft Publisher 2007.
  2. Go to File and click Publish to the Web.
  3. In the Publish to the Web window, click Tools and then Map Network Drive.
  4. In the Map Network Drive window, click Connect to a Network Server.
  5. Click Next.
  6. Choose Specify the address of FTP site.
  7. Enter your FTP address:
    Example: ftp://123.45.67.89/public_html
Replace the IP with your actual server IP.
  8. Uncheck the "Log on anonymously" box.
  9. Enter your FTP username (found in FTP Accounts).
  10. Name the connection (e.g., "My Website").
  11. Click Next, then Finish.

Step 2: Upload Your Website in Publisher 2007

Once your FTP location is set up, follow these steps to publish your content:

  1. Go to File and click Publish to the Web.
  2. From the Save In dropdown, select FTP Locations.
  3. Choose your domain name.
  4. Double-click the folder where you want to publish your site (usually public_html).
  5. Click Save to upload your site files.

Summary

Even though it's a legacy method, you can still upload a website in Publisher 2007 by setting up an FTP location and using the built-in publishing feature. This method is beginner-friendly and can be useful for small, static sites. However, due to its outdated standards and lack of responsive design, we recommend migrating to modern platforms like WordPress for better performance, SEO, and long-term support.
