Requirements
- Make sure that your email address and password are readily available in case they are needed.
- If your email is configured as POP, back up your email content to avoid data loss.
Updating Your Email Settings
- Access the email settings on either your device or software.
Tips:

- Apple users who auto-configured their email profile should remove it before proceeding.
- Choose the email account you wish to update.
- Lastly, update the authentication type to enable TLS (or TLS/StartTLS for newer clients).
Important:
- You need to enable SSL and use TLS to ensure your email remains secure.
- Make sure to use an email app or software that supports TLS 1.2.
- If issues persist, remove and re-add your email account (instructions below).

Email Settings Explained
- Email Address: Use your email address.
- Incoming Mail Server: System that receives email.
- Incoming Server Port: Mail server that receives email.
- IMAP is ideal for situations where several users require access to the same email account or for individuals who need to check their emails from various locations. The value for this server port is 993.
- POP is perfect for quickly downloading emails and reading them offline or on the go (you still have to be online to reply to emails). It's also a great way to save copies of your emails on your personal computer. The value for this server port is 995.

- At Bluehost, we highly encourage the use of IMAP over POP as it's our preferred method.
- IMAP offers a host of benefits that enhance your email experience, including seamless synchronization across multiple devices, real-time updates, and improved efficiency in managing your emails.
- Outgoing Mail Server: System that sends email.
- Outgoing Server Port: Mail server that sends email, and the value for this port is 587.
- Outgoing Server (SMTP) requires authentication: Use your full email address and password.
- SSL/TLS: This must be enabled to have a secure email. Ensure your email app or software supports TLS 1.2.
Removing an Email Profile
iPhone and iPad
- From your home screen, tap your device’s Settings icon.
- Depending on the OS version of your device, you either follow the steps below:
- iOS 14 and 15/iPadOS 14 and 15
- Scroll down and then tap Mail.
- Tap Accounts.
- iOS 13 and 12/iPadOS 13 and 12
- Scroll down and then tap Passwords & Accounts.
- iOS 11/iPadOS 11
- Scroll down and then tap Accounts & Passwords.
- iOS 10/iPadOS 10
- Scroll down and then tap Mail.
- iOS 9/iPadOS 9
- Scroll down and tap Mail, Contacts, Calendars.
- iOS 14 and 15/iPadOS 14 and 15
- Choose the mail account on the list by tapping it.
- Tap the Delete Account option.
Tips: If you don't see an option to delete the profile, you can follow either of the following steps below:
- iOS 14 or Earlier
- From your home screen, tap your device’s Settings icon.
- Tap General.
- Tap Profiles.
- Select the corresponding configuration profile and tap the Delete Profile option.
- Enter your iPhone passcode when prompted.
- Tap the Delete option.
- iOS 15
- From your home screen, tap your device’s Settings icon.
- Tap General.
- Tap VPN & Device Management.
- Choose the corresponding configuration profile and tap the Remove Profile option.
- Enter your iPhone passcode when prompted.
- Tap the Delete option.
- iOS 14 or Earlier
Mac Mail (MacOS Mail)
- In the Mail app on your Mac, click the Mail option.
- Click Settings, then click Accounts.
- Choose an account you want to remove from the list, then click the Remove button.
Tips:
- If the account you want to remove is used by other apps on your Mac, you will be asked to remove the account in the Internet Accounts settings. Please follow the steps below:
- Launch the Apple Menu on your Mac.
- Click System Preferences, then click Internet Accounts.
- Choose the profile from the list, then click the Remove button.
- To discontinue using the account across all applications, ensure the account is selected and then click on the Remove button.
- If the account you want to remove is used by other apps on your Mac, you will be asked to remove the account in the Internet Accounts settings. Please follow the steps below:
