How to Create and Manage Website Builder Menus

An organized Website Builder menu (also known as the Navigation Bar) helps your visitors find what they’re looking for on your website. This article will walk you through how to create and manage your Bluehost Website Builder menu with the following features below.:


To add a Website Builder menu or make changes to your existing navigation, you will need to access the Bluehost Website Builder.

Website Builder — How to Add a Menu

The Website Builder will automatically create a site menu based on the pages that have been added. This will save time building a website because you won't need to add a menu. You can add, delete, edit, and reorder menu items by accessing your menu settings.

This will show you how to access the Website Builder menu settings and guide you through the other popular features of your website editor.

Select Menus & Pages from the menu on the left. A list of your current pages will appear in the Primary menu.

Note: You can also access this menu from the top menu by selecting Page: Home from the top menu, then selecting Manage Pages from the drop-down menu.

Now you can add, edit, reorder, and delete menu items. You can also set how you would like page titles and descriptions to appear in search engine results. Read on for more details.


Website Builder — How to Add a Page to the Menu

This will show you how to add a page to the Website Builder menu.

  1. Select Menus & Pages from the menu on the left. A list of your current pages will appear in the Primary menu.
  2. Select New Page, and you’ll see options for adding a Page or an External link. Here is an example walkthrough below:

  3. Select either Blank (this adds a new page to the menu and your site), External link (this adds a menu item that links to a website outside of the site you’re working on), or Page Templates.

    • For a Blank page — add your page name, and the Page URL will autofill based on the page name. You can change the URL by toggling the button labeled “URL" to match the page name.
    • For an External Link — add the name you want displayed on the menu and enter the URL where you want to send visitors.
    • For Page templates — this will allow you to select the most commonly used pages for a website, such as Business Hours, Cover image, FAQ, Menu, Reviews, etc.
  4. Click the Add page button when you finish. Your new page or link will appear in the menu.

This section will show you how to edit your menu items.

  1. Select Menus & Pages from the menu to the left. A list of your current pages will appear in the Primary menu panel.
  2. Choose the page or link you want to edit and select theicon.

Website Builder — Settings

This section will show you how to view the Website Builder menu settings.

  1. Select the page you want to edit and click the kebab menu icon ⋮ , then select Settings.

  2. Under the Properties tab, you can update the Page name and Page URL. Other optional features include toggling it on or off to show this page in the Site Menu or Set as a homepage.

    Note: The “Page name” determines how it will show in your menu.

  3. Click Apply to save your changes.

Website Builder — SEO Settings

Your SEO settings (Search Engine Optimization) determine how each page will appear in search results. This section will show you where to access and add a description using the Website Builder menu SEO settings.

  1. Make updates to your Page Title or Description.
  2. Click Apply when finished.

Note: Changes to your SEO settings can take a while to update in search results.


Website Builder — How to Change the Menu Order

This will show you how to modify the Website Builder menu order. This is the list of your website pages.

  1. Select Menus & Pages from the menu on the left, and a list of your current pages will appear in the Primary menu panel.
  2. To re-order a menu item, select the ⋮⋮ icon.
  3. Drag and drop the item to change its place in the menu. Here is a quick walkthrough below:

Website Builder — How to Create Sub-Menu

You may want to have some website pages you create as a sub-category. This will show you how to create a sub-menu in the Website Builder menu features.

  1. Select Menus & Pages from the menu to the left. A list of your current pages will appear in the Primary menu panel.
  2. Select the page you want to have a sub-menu by dragging and dropping underneath your preferred Parent Page.
  3. Next, click the page and slightly drag it to the right. The v icon will appear underneath the Parent Page. It will automatically add as a sub-menu. Here is a quick walkthrough below:

Website Builder — How to Delete Items from the Menu

This section will show you how to delete items within the Website Builder menu.

Notice: It is important to know by selecting Delete this is a permanent action and cannot be restored nor reversed once deleted.

 

  1. Select Menus & Pages from the menu on the left, and a list of your current pages will appear in the Primary menu panel.
  2. Choose the page or link you want to delete and select the icon.
  3. Select Delete to remove the item permanently.

Please note: Pages cannot be restored once deleted.
