COMPARISON WITH KEY COMPETITORS
We believe in speed, and we have the data to prove it. WPShout’s November 2025 hosting comparison shows Bluehost delivering faster load times than most hosts tested — clocking in at just 0.35s in the US.
US load time comparison (Lower is better)
Choosing between Bluehost and WP Engine goes beyond price. The real differences show when you compare how each host performs in day-to-day use, how they handle traffic spikes and what you get as your site grows. Bluehost bundles essential tools in every hosting package, giving customers everything they need without searching for additional resources. .
Bluehost focuses on guiding users through WordPress from the moment they log in. Its onboarding wizard sets up WordPress automatically and leads you straight into the AI-powered site creation tools. Bluehost saves SMBs time by making the website-building process quick and easy with built-in plugins designed to make a fully functional website in minutes.
WP Engine is built primarily for developers. While powerful, its interface can be "over-engineered" for the average business owner, with a steep learning curve for SSH and custom workflows. Bluehost empowers you to build without a technical team.
Verdict: Bluehost offers a modern, guided and intuitive experience, while WP Engine caters specifically to developers and technical users.
Bluehost does not charge extra for its CDN or caching layers and still provides fast page load speeds that meet or exceed industry standards. Bluehost runs on high-performance infrastructure, including NVMe SSD storage. Its service-level commitment of 99.99% uptime matches the industry leader and the extra headroom (50GB NVMe storage and ~200k monthly visits) means you can handle viral traffic spikes without issues.
WP Engine markets itself on speed but often charges extra for premium edge caching and CDN layers. Furthermore, the Professional plan caps you at 15GB of storage and 75,000 visits, meaning growth often comes with overage fees.
Verdict: Bluehost delivers strong performance and offers significantly more resources for high-traffic websites without the premium price tag.
This is the most drastic difference. Bluehost consistently offers immense value. The Business tier starts at $6.99/mo and renews at $13.99/mo. In contrast, WP Engine’s plans come at a premium price point, which can significantly increase your annual hosting spend.
Despite the high cost, WP Engine provides fewer websites (3 vs 50) and less storage (15GB vs 50GB). When you add in the potential costs for email hosting (which WP Engine doesn’t provide) and premium security add-ons, the value gap widens even further.
Verdict: Bluehost offers unbeatable long-term value, combining affordability with a comprehensive set of features that help businesses scale without hidden expenses.
Bluehost is built around the complete WordPress ecosystem. As an officially recommended host by WordPress.org, it includes AI-powered site building, one-click installs, automated updates, staging environments and Yoast SEO tools. You can host up to 50 websites on the Business plan, giving agencies or multi-brand creators huge room to scale.
WP Engine offers strong developer tools like staging and backups, but they restrict certain plugins that conflict with their architecture. Their focus is on maintaining a controlled environment, which limits your flexibility.
Verdict: From SMBs to Agencies to the Enterprise, Bluehost has a full portfolio designed to grow with the needs of our customers without throttling their performance and website resources.
Security is critical, but it shouldn't be a hidden cost. Bluehost bundles malware detection and removal, DDoS Protection and domain privacy directly into the plan. This gives sites a strong default security posture without requiring customers to purchase additional packages.
WP Engine includes daily backups and standard security but often charges extra for advanced protection layers. They also do not include email hosting. Bluehost’s all-in-one security approach simplifies your protection and lowers your total cost of ownership.
Verdict: Bluehost provides a more complete, cost-effective security package, including malware removal and domain privacy upfront.
Support is vital when your business is on the line. Bluehost offers 24/7 chat, phone and email support, backed by WordPress-trained experts. We also offer priority support options. This is crucial for users who need help with plugins, WooCommerce or general site setup.
WP Engine also offers 24/7 phone and chat support with knowledgeable staff. However, since you are paying a premium ($50+), this level of support is expected. Bluehost delivers comparable expert-level assistance at a price point accessible to growing businesses.
Verdict: Bluehost offers deep WordPress expertise and official endorsement at a fraction of the cost of WP Engine.
Bluehost’s Business plan supports up to 50 sites, 50GB NVMe storage and ~200k visits/month. For agencies, eCommerce stores and portfolio owners, this means you can scale comfortably. You can launch new product lines or viral campaigns without worrying about hitting a low ceiling.
WP Engine’s Professional plan caps you at 3 websites, 15GB storage and 75,000 visits. If a blog post goes viral or you land a new client, you may face overage fees. Bluehost provides the space to grow as your website becomes more popular or complex.
Verdict: Bluehost is built for scaling with massive headroom; WP Engine’s strict limits can stifle growth or lead to surprise bills.
Bluehost includes:Malware detection and removal, DDoS Protection, NVMe Servers, Free SSL, Free Domain, Yoast SEO, automated backups, free migration tool, staging sites, domain privacy, AI Website Builder and live expert support.
Free migrations, premium development tools (staging, backups, etc.) and some CDN/caching. (No domain, no email, no AI builder).
The difference is clear. With Bluehost, you have everything you need to launch. With WP Engine, you are paying a premium for the hosting engine but still need to buy a domain and email elsewhere.

Had what appeared to be a cach problem. Could upload files all day long with FTP, but site never updated at our end. Turned out to be a caching issue with Starlink. Switched to mobile data and site appeared as it should. Thanks to Neha Suvarna for solving my problem. Addled brains don't work well with PC's, late at night. :-)
Karthik Shetty saved the day! On google, my website had a favicon and site title of the other website in my account. My website was also only populating under my temporary bluehost url. When i googled myself it was the temporary bluehost url, which looks terrible and unprofessional. Karthik Shetty helped me find the source of the issue, which was google, walked me through the changes to make in google console. Now, I am waiting until google makes the necessary changes. Once they do, I have full trust that Karthik Shetty got me all fixed up. Karthik Shetty deserves a raise and employee of the month!
Vashal resolved my issue, no problem
Great customer service
unfortunately our hosting cost almost doubled in 3 years and the staff worked with us to decrease the cost. Unfortunately the cost maybe out of our non profits budget. customer service was great and helpful.
The support staff member that helped today was excellent. He understood my complicated issue and put a good amount of time in to resolve it. He checked in with me throughout the process to let me know how things were going. I am very pleased with the help that I received.
The AI was able to answer most of my questions but there were some things I wanted a verification on from a human. After talking to a person, I found the AI had in fact answered my questions properly. One thing that would be great is if I could talk to the AI, instead of typing. I am not a good typer and it would go so much faster if I could dictate.
Mohammed was outstanding - concise, efficient and given the situation, got the job done in short order. Excellent customer support!
The agent provided me with the information I needed to move forward in my cyber investigation.
In this age of AI, Bluehost Customer Service is a breath air, above head and shoulders of the rest. Human agents to assist in every aspect, so professionally and most importantly respectfully. With one call they get me back on track so kindly and effortlessly. For all my online services there is none other. In Bluehost I trust!
The agent was quick and very helpful
I have been using them over the years with good experience. I recently had an issue with renewal charhes, but they resolved it quicky and to my satisfaction in one short online chat.
Good tech support and customer service I had a problem figuring out how to create a new subdomain (mostly because I have not done it in about 15 years). Support person grasped the issue, created it for me, and gave me links to the appropriate Knowledge Base articles. And, offered me a discount for early renewal of my hosting plan.
It was really pleasant and fast to get the help I needed! Thanks so much!
I've used Blue Hose for a number of years Home several websites. I'm very happy with their service I would highly recommend it.
