Getting Started

After connecting to a server in CuteFTP, you can manage files easily by navigating the layout, renaming files and folders, creating new folders, and transferring files between your local and remote servers.

Navigating the Files

The layout in CuteFTP helps you perform various actions with ease. The top toolbar provides quick access to functions. Below it is the connection bar, where you can enter your server details.

  • The left section has the Local Drives tab (for your local files) and the Site Manager tab (to organize your FTP connections).
  • The right section shows files and folders on your remote server after connection.
  • The bottom section has a Queue Window (showing file transfer status) and a Log Window (showing process completion status).

Note: Double-click a folder to open it, or right-click and select Open.

Renaming a File or Folder

To rename a file or folder in CuteFTP:

  1. Right-click the item.
  2. Select Rename from the menu.
  3. Edit the name and press Enter to save.

You can also rename items using the Rename tool on the toolbar.

Adding a Folder

To create a new folder in CuteFTP:

  1. Right-click on an empty space in the directory.
  2. Select New Folder from the options.
  3. Enter a name for the folder in the pop-up and click OK.

Moving Files and Folders

To move a file or folder:

  1. Click and hold the item you want to move.
  2. Drag it to the desired location within the same section or to a different section.

Transferring Files

You can transfer files between your local machine and server in several ways:

  • Drag and drop an item from the Local Drives section (left) to the Remote section (right), or vice versa.
  • Drag and drop files directly from your desktop to the Remote section, or from the Remote section to your desktop for backup.

Note: Dragging files from the remote section to your desktop or local section creates backups on your computer.
