Transferring Files Using Dreamweaver

You can move files between your computer and the remote server through the Files panel.

How to Download Files From the Remote Server using Dreamweaver

Follow these steps to retrieve files from your remote server:

  1. In the Files panel, choose the files you want to download. You may switch from Local View to Remote Server to locate the files.
     
    If the Remote view is active, Dreamweaver transfers the selected files to the local site. If the Local view is active, Dreamweaver retrieves the remote versions of the selected local files.
  2. Click the Get button in the Files panel to download the selected files.
  3. Select Yes when prompted to include dependent files during the transfer.
  4. Switch to Local View. The downloaded files should now appear. Double-click a file to open and edit it.
Click Cancel in the Background File Activity dialog box if you want to stop the transfer. If the dialog box is not visible, click the File Activity button in the Files panel.

Move Multiple Files

To transfer several files at once:

  1. Select multiple files by holding the Ctrl key while clicking each one.
  2. Download the selected files by clicking the Get button.
  3. When prompted about dependent files, click No.

The transferred files will appear once you switch from Remote Server to Local View.

How to Upload Files to the Remote Server using Dreamweaver

Here’s how to upload files to your remote server:

  1. In the Files panel, select the files you want to upload. You may need to change views to find them.
  2. Click the Put button in the Files panel.
  3. When the dialog box appears, select Yes if you want to include dependent files in the upload.
Click Cancel in the Background File Activity dialog box to stop the transfer at any time. If the dialog box is not visible, click the File Activity button in the Files panel.

How to Synchronize the Entire Domain Files

To synchronize your domain files:

  1. In the Files panel, choose the site you want to sync. You may also pick specific files or folders.
  2. Click the Synchronize button at the top of the Files panel.
  3. In the options menu, choose one of the following:
    • To sync the entire site, select Entire your-site-name Site.
    • To sync only selected files, choose Selected Local Files Only or Selected Remote Files Only, depending on your selection.
  4. Select the direction of synchronization: Put Newer Files to Remote, Get Newer Files from Remote, or Get and Put Newer Files.
  5. Click Preview to review the files that will be synchronized.
  6. Confirm the action for each file as needed.
  7. Click OK to begin the synchronization process.

The files will now be synced between your local machine and the remote server.
