Bluehost AI Builder: How to Get Your Website or App Ready for Launch
Before you share your Bluehost AI Builder website or app with real customers, take some time to get it ready. This article gives you a pre-launch checklist and explains the security basics, performance, backups, and monitoring you're responsible for after your site or app goes live.
What Bluehost Handles and What You Handle
When you publish, Bluehost hosts your site or app. Some things, like the content you publish and the data you collect, are up to you.
| Area | Bluehost handles | You handle |
|---|---|---|
| Hosting | Hosting your published site or app | Choosing when to publish and what's live |
| Secure connection | Serving your published site or app over HTTPS automatically, on your free address or your own domain. On a newly connected custom domain, HTTPS can take a short time to activate | Connecting your own domain, if you want one |
| Building | Writing and updating your app's code when you ask | Testing that features work the way you expect |
| Accounts and access | Providing a login-protected admin panel | Setting an admin password and deciding who gets admin access |
| Data | Saving the data your app collects | Deciding what data to collect, protecting it, and keeping copies |
| Your app's logic | Keeping the AI Builder platform working | Fixing how your app behaves by describing changes in the AI Builder chat |
Note: Bluehost Support can help with the AI Builder platform, such as building, publishing, domains, and credits. Bluehost doesn't fix the logic or data of an app you built. To change your app, describe the change in the AI Builder chat.
Pre-Launch Checklist
Work through this list before you share your site or app. Some items link to more detail later in this article or in another article.
Content and Design
- Read every page for accurate business details, such as your name, phone number, address, hours, and prices.
- Click every link and button to confirm it goes to the right place.
- Check your site or app on a phone, a tablet, and a computer.
- Replace any placeholder text or images with your own.
Forms and Data
- Remove sample data. A new app may include sample records, such as example clients or bookings. Because your preview and live app share the same database, ask AI Builder to remove the sample records before you launch, for example: "Remove all sample data from my app. Keep the pages, fields, and settings." Then check the Manage view to confirm they're gone.
This request uses 1 credit. You can also delete sample records yourself in the Manage view, which is free. - Submit a test entry on every form, confirm it saves, then delete the test entry.
- Confirm each form has the required fields and checks you want. See Bluehost AI Builder: How to Create and Validate Forms.
- If you want email alerts for new submissions, set up email notifications and send a test email. See Bluehost AI Builder: How to Connect Your Website or App to Other Tools.
Accounts and Access
- Set an admin password from your profile in the admin, so you can sign in at /admin/login on your live site.
- Review who has admin access, and remove anyone who shouldn't.
- If visitors can sign up, test the sign-up and sign-in flow with a test account, then delete it.
Policies and Privacy
- Add a privacy policy if your site or app collects personal information, such as names, email addresses, or phone numbers.
- Make sure your site or app doesn’t collect sensitive information, such as payment card numbers, health records, tax information, or government ID numbers.
Going Live
- Publish your site or app, then open the live address and check it the way a visitor would.
- To use your own domain, upgrade to a paid plan and connect it. See Bluehost AI Builder: Publishing Your App and Connecting a Domain.
Security Basics You Handle
AI Builder builds what you ask for. It doesn't decide who should have access to your data or what information is safe to collect. Review these areas before you launch.
Protect Your Admin Panel
Your app's admin panel shows your data and lets people change it.
- Set a strong, unique admin password from your profile in the admin. Opening the admin from your AI Builder workspace signs you in without a password, but you need one to sign in at /admin/login.
- Give admin access only to people who need it. You can add and remove owners in your admin panel. Other access controls depend on how your app was built, so ask AI Builder to add any you need.
- When someone leaves your team, remove their access.
Check What's Public and What's Private
Ask AI Builder to list which pages anyone can see and which require a sign-in. Questions that don't change your app don't use credits. For example:
PromptList every page in my app. For each page, tell me whether visitors can see it without signing in, and which roles can see it after signing in. Don't change anything.
If a page shows information that should be private, ask AI Builder to require a sign-in for it.
Protect Your Forms
AI Builder adds server-side validation and spam protection to forms only when you ask for them. Before you launch, ask for both on every public form:
- Ask AI Builder to validate form entries on the server before saving them, so entries that don’t meet your rules are rejected.
- Add spam protection to public forms.
For example prompts, see Bluehost AI Builder: How to Create and Validate Forms.
Keep Keys and Passwords Out of Your App
Store API keys and other credentials in Settings > Secrets. Don't paste them into the AI Builder chat, your app's pages, or its data tables.
Collect Only What You Need
Ask for the least information you need. Don’t collect sensitive information, such as payment card numbers, health records, tax information, or government ID numbers. If you collect personal information, tell visitors how you use it, for example in a privacy policy, and follow the privacy laws that apply to your business.
Important: You're responsible for the content on your site or app and the information it collects. Sites and apps must follow the Bluehost Terms of Service and acceptable use policy.
Prepare for Real Traffic
Bluehost hosts your published site or app, but how quickly your pages load also depends on what's on them. A few checks help your site or app feel fast for visitors.
Keep Images Light
Large photos are a common cause of slow pages. Before you upload photos, resize them to the size they'll appear on the page. AI Builder doesn’t optimize images automatically, but you can ask it to, for example:
PromptOptimize the images on my site so pages load faster. Keep the same images and layout.
If you don’t upload your own photos, AI Builder picks stock images.
Test the Way Visitors Will
- Open your live site or app on a phone using mobile data, not just Wi-Fi.
- Walk through the actions visitors use most, such as moving between pages and submitting forms.
- Ask someone who hasn't seen your site or app to try it and tell you where they get stuck.
Keep Pages Focused
Pages with fewer large elements, such as videos, sliders, and image galleries, load faster. If a page feels slow, ask AI Builder to simplify it. For example:
PromptThe Home page loads slowly on phones. Make it faster without removing the main sections. Keep the design the same.
Expect a Short Wake-Up After Quiet Periods
If no one visits your published site or app for 15 minutes, it goes to sleep. The next visit wakes it, so that first page load is slower than usual. After that, it loads normally.
Tip: Before an important moment, such as a launch announcement or a promotion, open your site or app yourself so it's awake when visitors arrive.
Keep Copies of Your Content and Data
AI Builder doesn’t include backups you can restore, a version history, or a built-in data export at this time. To undo a change, ask AI Builder to change it back, then click Publish. For example: “Put the Contact page back the way it was before my last change.” That request uses a credit. AI Builder may not be able to recover everything, especially data that was deleted. Keep your own copies of anything you’d need to rebuild.
Your Data
Ask AI Builder to add a CSV export to your admin panel, then download a copy of your important data regularly, such as bookings, clients, and form submissions. For example:
PromptAdd a button to the admin panel that exports each table to a CSV file. Don't change anything else.
Download a fresh copy before you ask for big changes, especially changes that remove or rename fields or tables. See Bluehost AI Builder: Understanding Your App's Database Structure.
Your Files and Content
- Keep the original files you uploaded, such as your logo, photos, menus, and price lists.
- Keep a copy of important text, such as your About page, service descriptions, and policies.
Your App's Structure
Ask AI Builder to describe your app's pages, features, and data tables, and save the answer. If you ever need to rebuild, you can use it as the starting point for a new prompt. For example:
PromptDescribe my app: list every page, what each page does, every data table and its fields, and any connected services. Don't change anything.
Note: Deletion is permanent and can’t be undone. Before you delete a project, download the data you want to keep.
Monitor Your Site or App After Launch
After you launch, check in regularly. Bluehost doesn't send alerts if your published app stops running, so regular checks help you spot problems before your visitors do.
Check That Your App Is Running
In your app, click the settings gear icon above the preview, then click Runtime to see whether your app is running. If it stops responding, click Reboot on the same page. Rebooting is designed to keep your code, data, and secrets.
Watch for New Submissions
- Set up email notifications so you know when someone submits a form or makes a request.
- Check the Manage view or your admin panel regularly for new entries.
Test Your Key Features
Every few weeks, and after every change you publish, submit a test entry on your main forms and walk through your most important pages. Delete test entries afterward, because they're saved to your live data.
Track Visits
AI Builder doesn't include analytics, such as visit counts or traffic sources, at this time.
Note: If you run out of credits, your published site or app stays online. Only new changes pause until your credits refresh, you buy a top-up, or you upgrade. For current plans and pricing, visit the Bluehost AI Builder page.
Make Changes Safely After Launch
Your site or app keeps working while you make changes, but how changes go live depends on the kind of change.
| Kind of change | When visitors see it |
|---|---|
| Most changes you make through the AI Builder chat, such as new pages, layout, or text | After you click Publish |
| Chat changes to your business name, business details, or prices | Right away, after you confirm. AI Builder asks first: “This also changes your published site.” |
| Records you add or edit in the Manage view or admin panel | Right away. Your preview and live app share the same database. |
| Changes to your app’s data structure, such as adding or removing fields | As soon as AI Builder makes the change, even before you publish |
Before you publish a change:
- Review the change in your preview.
- Test any forms or pages it affects.
- Download a copy of your data first if the change removes or converts data.
- Click Publish when everything works.
