Caching at Bluehost

Caching at Bluehost improves WordPress performance by automatically storing and reusing frequently requested content. These built-in caching layers help your website load faster, handle higher traffic, and reduce server workload — all without requiring manual setup.

What Caching Does Bluehost Provide

Bluehost includes multiple caching layers that work together to balance speed and content freshness. Each layer handles a different type of data.

Page Caching

Page caching stores fully rendered pages so they can be delivered instantly without rebuilding them for every visitor.

In your WordPress dashboard, under the Bluehost Plugin, page caching is exposed as **caching levels**. These levels control how aggressively pages and assets are cached based on how often your site content changes:

Caching Level Best For Caching Behavior
Assets Only Sites that change frequently or display real-time information (such as stores or highly dynamic sites). Static assets (images, CSS, JavaScript) are cached briefly. Web pages are not cached.
Assets & Web Pages Blogs or informational sites that update regularly. Static assets are cached for a longer period. Web pages are cached for a moderate amount of time to improve performance while still allowing timely updates.
Assets & Web Pages – Extended Sites that change infrequently, such as portfolios or brochure sites. Static assets are cached for an extended period. Web pages are cached longer than other levels to maximize performance.

Caching durations are managed automatically by Bluehost across multiple layers and may vary based on configuration. You do not need to fine-tune or optimize these values.

Object Caching

Object caching stores frequently used data from the WordPress database in memory. This reduces repeated database queries and improves efficiency, especially for dynamic sites and wp‑admin.

Bluehost uses Redis to handle object caching, which improves:

  • WordPress admin responsiveness
  • Dynamic page performance
  • Database-heavy functionality

CDN (Content Delivery Network)

Bluehost includes Cloudflare CDN, which caches static files such as images, CSS, and JavaScript on servers around the world. Visitors load these files from a location near them, helping reduce latency.

Please refer to the Cloudflare Guide article to learn more.

Browser Caching

Browser caching instructs visitors’ browsers to save static files locally so they don’t need to be downloaded again on repeat visits.

All of these caching layers work together automatically and are designed to minimize the need for manual tuning.

Do I Need a Caching Plugin

No. Bluehost provides and manages all caching for your site.

Installing third-party caching plugins — such as W3 Total Cache, LiteSpeed Cache, WP Super Cache, or WP Fastest Cache — is not recommended. These plugins can conflict with Bluehost’s built-in caching, cause unexpected behavior, or even slow your site down.

What About Bluehost Cloud

This article applies to WordPress sites on Bluehost shared hosting.

Bluehost Cloud is a separate product with its own caching system, including always-on page caching, edge caching, and persistent object caching.

If you are using Bluehost Cloud, please refer to the Bluehost Cloud Caching article.

Summary

Caching at Bluehost includes page caching, object caching, CDN caching, and browser caching working together automatically. No setup is required, and third-party caching plugins should not be installed. Bluehost Cloud hosting uses a separate advanced caching system designed for high-performance environments.
